EXPLICIT TRUST

A discovered computer is not automatically trusted.

Status: Preview

RFile pairing requires an invitation or discovered endpoint, a matching confirmation code, and an explicit decision. Permissions remain separately configurable after trust is established.

Confirm the right computer

  1. Exchange privately

Share an invitation only with the person controlling the other RFile computer.

  2. Compare both screens

Read the displayed confirmation digits on both computers and confirm only when they match.

  3. Review the trusted entry

After pairing, identify the device in Trusted devices before enabling access.

Permission meanings

  • Send

Allows this computer to initiate sending selected content to the trusted device where the peer also accepts it. The direct-send controls additionally require a live LAN connection; offline and iroh-only cards stay disabled.

  • Receive

Allows accepted incoming content from the trusted device to be written to the configured incoming location.

  • Browse

Allows the peer to enumerate only locations that are separately shared or approved.

  • Write

Allows supported changes inside a shared location when Browse is enabled and that share also grants read/write access.

  • Auto-Accept

Removes an approval step for eligible incoming actions from that trusted device. Enable it only when the device and operator are trusted.
