The Browse devices page lists paired computers and their current reachability. An online device with browse permission can expose its approved roots as a remote file view.
Open a remote location
- Open Browse devices
Choose the paired computer that currently reports an available connection.
- Choose an approved root
Enter a location the owner shared with this device.
- Browse
Open remote folders and select a file or folder inside the authorized tree.
- Download to
Choose a local destination and follow the authenticated transfer in Transfers.
Follow folder packaging and transfer
Download to folder first asks the other computer to discover the authorized tree and compute a bounded, immutable Stored-ZIP plan. The Transfers card appears during that work and reports available entry, file, folder, processed-byte, discovered-byte, and elapsed-time details without exposing remote paths.
RFile 0.3.61 retains the proven 0.3.56 prepare-then-transfer path for Browse Devices folders. The sending computer completes the Stored ZIP and its actual BLAKE3 while the card shows Scanning folder, Packaging folder, and Checking archive progress. Authenticated V2 delivery starts only after preparation succeeds, so ZIP production and transfer do not overlap. This avoids the live-stream cancellation and Protocol failure modes while retaining the fast single-archive carrier for folders with many small files.
The receiver verifies the archive's exact length and BLAKE3 before it validates the ZIP, extracts and checks a private stage, and atomically publishes the destination folder. A cancelled, truncated, changed, corrupt, or failed archive is not published.
A still older peer can use the legacy recursive fallback, with bounded, coalesced discovery progress while the remote tree is enumerated.
Explorer drag preparation
Dragging remote content into another Windows application requires a local copy. RFile can first prepare an authenticated copy in its local cache; when the row reports Ready, drag the prepared item again.
Cancel or remove unwanted prepared copies through the transfer workflow. A partial or cancelled download is not treated as a completed file.

- Trusted identity
The connection must belong to the paired device identity.
- Browse permission
The owner must enable browsing for this device.
- Approved root
Every requested path must stay inside a share granted to this device.
