RELEASE HISTORY

What changed in every RFile release.

Status: Production

This maintained history is also part of the release gate: a new desktop version must have a valid entry before its signed installer can be built, staged, or published.

  • Current release: RFile 0.3.79
  • Entries separate additions, behavior changes, fixes, and removals.
  • Historical entries describe shipped changes; only the current installer remains on the download page.
  • Historical version numbers without retained public-release evidence are left out rather than reconstructed from guesses.

Speed-first positioning and five-app comparison — September 6, 2026

Website-only update. The current desktop installer remains 0.3.77; no new desktop release is required for these website changes.

  • Browsing comes first

The centered homepage now leads with fast Rust-powered browsing, virtualized lists and background folder-size work. The approved wide preview and quiet tours stay in place.

  • Five apps, 28 sourced workflows

The /compare page includes RFile, File Explorer, File Pilot, Files and Directory Opus, with direct product comparisons and current RFile search, storage, tags and Inspector tools. Preview scope, competitor strengths and unknown capabilities remain visible.

  • Evidence types stay separate

The creator's informal side-by-side File Pilot browsing experience is labeled as an observation without retained timings. The historical direct-Robocopy versus Shell result is still an engine-only test, not a five-app or browsing benchmark.

  • Search-readable current content

The visible checklist and no-JavaScript comparison use one data source. Public metadata no longer calls the available Velocity Rust and Windows Native preferences Beta; OneDrive and Inspector summaries match current functionality. The sitemap and documentation index link /compare, and /comparisons.json exports the sourced ledger. These changes do not guarantee search or AI rankings.

The selected Tab R identity — RFile 0.3.71

RFile 0.3.71 applies the selected Tab R symbol consistently across native app icons and website brand assets. It is a branding-only release; existing app and website interactions stay the same.

  • The exact selected mark

An angular blue R incorporates a raised file-tab top, transparent counter, and broad diagonal leg. The flat body is #647BE7 and the lighter tab is #A7B6FA. There is no enclosing tile, outline, or gradient.

  • One identity where an icon belongs

Executable, installer, uninstaller, taskbar/tray, account, favicon, web app, and social marks use Tab R. The desktop titlebar and website header keep their plain RFile text rather than adding a logo beside it.

  • Existing behavior is preserved

Inspector image zoom and pan, focus-scoped image keyboard controls, OCR selection, media playback, transfers, the centered wide website hero, and the footer-level motion preference are unchanged. This update does not add a new performance claim or benchmark.

  • Walkthrough provenance is unchanged

The product tours remain edited sample-file captures from RFile 0.3.67. They do not show the new logo installed in the captured app, and are not new 0.3.71 recordings or real-time performance measurements.

Centered hero and quiet previews — RFile 0.3.70

The homepage puts a centered headline and download action above a wide workspace preview that rises into view as the page scrolls. Individual product animations no longer display player controls, download links, provenance labels, or caption bars over or beneath the app image.

  • One motion control, outside the previews

Choose Reduce motion in the footer to stop website preview animations and the scroll reveal; choose Enable animations to return to the system preference. This choice is remembered in this browser. If your operating system requests reduced motion or data saving is active, the footer shows Reduced motion enabled and cannot override that preference. Previews remain still posters, with no per-preview Play button. This controls the website's silent tours, not desktop Inspector playback.

  • Restrained app-style identity

A flat charcoal app tile, light-slate geometric R, and muted indigo tab accent replace the layered blue folder mark. The desktop titlebar and website header use a plain RFile wordmark. Native app icons, favicons, account marks, and web app icons keep the shared symbol where an icon is useful.

  • Inspector image zoom and pan

Supported local and Google Drive image previews gain wheel/pinch zoom, drag panning, minus/plus buttons, Fit and 100%, and focus-scoped plus/minus/zero shortcuts. OCR selection follows the painted image and temporarily owns dragging. Viewing an image more closely does not edit or rewrite it.

  • The recorded tours stay historical

The four walkthrough families remain genuine edited app-state captures from installed RFile 0.3.67. The revised workspace tour has seven states in 14 seconds; the revised Inspector tour has eight states in 16 seconds, with the superseded blue-folder artwork fixture removed. Transfer and connected-settings tours remain nine seconds each. These are not continuous timing videos, new benchmarks, or recordings of the 0.3.70 image controls and revised application branding.

Complete product tour and shared identity — September 4, 2026

This follow-up extends animated walkthroughs across the homepage, feature pages, download page, security page, and documentation. RFile 0.3.69 introduces an original blue folder-and-R identity shared by the desktop, installer, tray, and website.

  • Animated product media throughout

Standalone product screenshot presentations are replaced by four walkthrough families: the full workspace with sidebar and tabs, Inspector, transfer settings, and connected settings. Secondary feature pages give the walkthrough more room, link to the relevant guide, and group related capabilities by task. Each documentation article shows a walkthrough family once; later sections link back instead of repeating the same loop.

  • Motion stays under your control

Optimized looping MP4 media keeps the website lighter than loading GIFs everywhere, while every walkthrough offers a downloadable GIF. Play and Pause controls are keyboard accessible. Reduced-motion and data-saving preferences start with a still poster instead of autoplay; the poster is an accessibility fallback, not a separate screenshot gallery.

  • More of the real workspace

The workspace tour uses nine actual app states showing the full sidebar, tab creation and reordering, split view, and Backspace navigation. Nine Inspector states cover JSON, CSS, Rust, Markdown, HTML source and rendered preview, Unity prefab and metadata files, and the new R artwork as a sample PNG.

  • What the settings tours show

The transfer tour shows Robocopy, verification, and resource-mode controls in Settings; it does not show transfer progress. The connected tour shows the Google Drive connection entry, Nearby and background bandwidth controls, and VLC plugin enable/uninstall controls. It does not show private trusted-device lists, remote browsing, shared-folder permission grants, or a completed pairing, account login, or uninstall.

  • Capture scope

All walkthroughs use genuine installed Windows RFile 0.3.67 at the full 1802 × 1002 capture size, with sample fixtures and no visible pointer. The footage is edited for readability, not a continuous real-time recording or a speed benchmark. The app chrome is still 0.3.67; the new 0.3.69 artwork is shown as an Inspector image fixture, not substituted into the recorded application UI.

  • An expanded, sourced feature checklist

The comparison covers 18 workflows across RFile, Windows File Explorer, Files, and Directory Opus, with links to vendor and plugin-author sources. Checkmarks identify documented capabilities; crosses identify documented limitations. Add-on, Partial, Preview, and Unknown stay distinct, and RFile's own limitations remain visible. This is not a head-to-head speed ranking.

  • One blue folder-and-R mark

RFile 0.3.69 uses the same original identity for desktop and website branding, including the executable, installer, tray, titlebar, favicon, and web app icons. The branding update does not change transfer-engine behavior or updater compatibility.

Website refresh — September 4, 2026

The public website has a new download-focused design, a keyboard-accessible product tour, a sourced comparison of four Windows file managers, and an interactive network-link ceiling calculator. Feature pages, installation, documentation, and navigation share the refreshed visual system. This is a website update; the current desktop installer remains 0.3.68.

  • Real animated walkthroughs

The homepage and Inspector/split-view feature pages now show genuine app captures with sample files, edited for readability. The published frame excludes the sidebar and automation pointer. Small looping videos have pause controls and a static reduced-motion fallback; GIF downloads are also available. These walkthroughs are not performance measurements.

  • Benchmarks with context

The retained 40,373-file engine comparison stays linked to its methodology and raw trials. It is not labeled as a current app, tab-opening, or LAN benchmark.

  • Transfer-speed guide

Nearby Sharing documentation now explains raw Gbps-to-MB/s ceilings, storage and CPU bottlenecks, flow control, and why real end-to-end transfers take longer.

RFile 0.3.79 — 2026-09-07

Keep folder browsing responsive while a saved search index opens after an update or restart.

  • Added

Search shows Opening saved search index while saved metadata is checked, with a useful error and retry if startup fails.

  • Changed

Index status requests share one pending request across views. Polling waits for completion before scheduling the next check, and leaving a view stops its polling.

  • Fixed

Saved-index validation no longer blocks async command workers or their timers. Concurrent index requests wait asynchronously behind one initialization worker, so a large saved index cannot starve folder-list commands through this path.

  • Fixed

Index rebuild preparation, drive validation, watcher shutdown and SQLite reopening run off the async command workers. Duplicate rebuild requests are rejected instead of queued. Existing integrity checks, saved data, root validation and bounded folder-read recovery remain in place.

RFile 0.3.78 — 2026-09-06

Aligned Inspector controls, readable 3D animation menus, clear library view tabs, and recovery from stalled folder listings.

  • Added

Folder-list errors now include a Retry button. A frontend deadline also recovers the view if the native bridge does not settle.

  • Changed

Smart folders and Tagged files are now one segmented tab switch with a visible selected view and Arrow, Home and End keyboard navigation.

  • Fixed

Inspector mode buttons, icon buttons, document zoom controls and metadata headings use consistent vertical alignment and control heights. Full details remain available.

  • Fixed

3D animation dropdowns size the shared menu trigger correctly. Clip names truncate safely, the speed label stays readable, and transport controls and timeline use separate rows. Narrow panes wrap the clip selector; the model preview reserves enough minimum height for its controls.

  • Fixed

Older settings without a saved preview height retain automatic sizing instead of shrinking previews to the minimum height.

  • Fixed

Repeated directory-change notifications no longer restart and starve an active folder listing. RFile publishes its result first and coalesces a catch-up read; background refresh keeps existing rows visible and respects Stop and errors.

  • Fixed

Bridge initialization failures and stalled reads leave the loading state with a useful explanation. Late results cannot overwrite Retry or newer navigation. Native listing deadlines cover worker shutdown as well as scanning, with at most four reader workers retained if a filesystem call stalls.

RFile 0.3.77 — 2026-09-06

Live folder-size updates and a roomier Inspector with preview search, document zoom, image editing copies, structured data views and improved video tools.

  • Added

Visible local folder sizes receive recursive filesystem change notifications. Changed folders and ancestors recalculate in the background while previous totals stay visible; unrelated siblings keep cached totals. Revisit freshness, bounded scans, partial labels and manual F5 remain.

  • Added

Collapsible file details preserve every metadata field and action. Compact two-column details, a wider expandable Inspector, matching toolbar buttons and preview search controls leave more room for content.

  • Added

Find text with Ctrl+F, previous/next matches and highlighted results in source, Markdown, HTML, CSV, JSON and text-based PDFs. Source line numbers have a saved toggle. CSV tables sort columns numerically when appropriate; JSON opens as a bounded collapsible tree.

  • Added

HTML and PDF have zoom percentage, fit width and reset. HTML includes panel, desktop and mobile viewport widths, plus up to eight safe local CSS sidecars. Page JavaScript and network resources remain blocked. PDF.js, fonts, CMaps and decoder assets are bundled locally.

  • Added

Images gain 90-degree rotation, horizontal/vertical flips, transparency backgrounds and a crop selection. Save copy creates a new PNG beside the original using bounded, no-overwrite publication; exports are limited to 16 megapixels and 32 MiB.

  • Added

Video gains frame-to-PNG capture, embedded subtitle cycling including Off, and selected A–B looping. Hover thumbnails are available for browser-decodable video; VLC-only formats retain time previews. Capture support depends on the active decoder and file.

  • Changed

Video reserves its full automatic preview area at selection time and no longer grows from a small opening rectangle after metadata arrives. Controls share hover/focus treatment and seek-track feedback; narrow panes wrap tools together. Hold-to-play-at-2x, paused-by-default playback and native surface isolation remain.

  • Changed

Loading, retry and unsupported-format messages explain preview failures. Source/Preview remains remembered across compatible files; edits and image exports are explicit actions. Historical website tours and benchmarks are not new performance evidence.

  • Fixed

Table sorting and syntax-spanning search keep React text nodes intact. All path-bearing previews reject stale selection results, PDF text layers follow zoom, and expanded Inspector widths are clamped when the window shrinks.

  • Fixed

Unavailable native subtitle/capture operations report an error without terminating healthy playback. Private captured frames are cleaned when the session closes.

RFile 0.3.76 — 2026-09-06

HTML previews fill the Inspector, and your Source or Preview choice is remembered across files and restarts.

  • Changed

HTML and Markdown share a saved Source/Preview reading preference. Plain text falls back to Text without clearing it. Edit remains an explicit per-file action, and leaving the editor returns to the selected reading mode.

  • Fixed

Removed the general iframe rule that capped nested HTML previews at 300 pixels. Rendered HTML fills the available viewport at tall and short pane sizes while keeping truncation notices and file details visible; direct PDF frame sizing is preserved.

  • Fixed

Previous text content can no longer mount under a newly selected HTML file. Rendered documents are keyed by file, and late editor refresh/save results cannot overwrite another selected file's preview.

RFile 0.3.75 — 2026-09-05

Folder sizes now appear automatically in the Details Size column, with background calculation, caching and clear partial totals.

  • Added

Mounted local folder rows calculate logical contents sizes in the background. Completed results are shared across split panes and reused by Inspector; measured folders participate in Size sorting. Settings > General can turn automatic folder sizes off.

  • Changed

Automatic sizing uses a bounded two-worker metadata scanner and one process-wide scan gate. It does not read file contents, permits folder rename/delete, and opens descendants relative to verified directory handles without following junctions or symbolic links. Explicit Inspector calculations take priority.

  • Changed

Sizes are cached in memory and refreshed on revisits after 30 seconds or with F5. Calculation and queued states show an ellipsis; inaccessible folders show an unavailable state, and limited scans show a partial lower bound. Automatic sizing skips network drives and cloud placeholders; logical totals include hidden files and count hard-linked names separately, not physical disk allocation.

  • Fixed

The Details Size column no longer shows a permanent dash for every local folder.

RFile 0.3.74 — 2026-09-05

The in-app folder picker now matches RFile's folder and drive views, with shared shell icons, Details rows, breadcrumbs and drive-capacity bars.

  • Changed

Folder selection reuses the main file view's Windows shell icon renderer, shared quick-place icons, Details row styling and compact/comfortable density. This PC shows familiar folder and drive rows with real free/total capacity and low-space bars.

  • Changed

The picker uses RFile's navigation buttons and clickable breadcrumbs. Ctrl+L or the address bar allows direct drive/UNC folder entry; Escape exits address editing before cancelling selection. Columns adapt to narrower split panes.

  • Fixed

Removed the picker-only outline folder glyphs, different row treatment and colored heading. Existing folder-only validation, Enter/Backspace selection restoration, explicit confirmation/cancellation and preserved tabs/split layout remain intact.

RFile 0.3.73 — 2026-09-05

A unified Search & storage dashboard, parallel analysis, in-app split folder picking, consistent dropdowns, and persistent account connection preferences.

  • Added

Search & storage replaces the separate sidebar pages with indexed file search, a storage map, useful analysis totals and a right-side duplicate review panel. Older search/storage routes remain compatible, and narrow panes stack the review panel below the results.

  • Added

Folder Browse and Choose folder actions use a temporary in-app picker on the opposite side. It preserves existing tabs and split state, supports keyboard folder navigation and cancellation, and also handles Google Drive folder-download destinations.

  • Changed

Bounded workers prepare filename-index metadata and duplicate candidates and hashes. A full duplicate analysis reuses its metadata inventory for the storage map; content readability is established during hashing, not inventory. Quick size scan remains metadata-only. Real phases, worker caps, counts, elapsed time and hash bytes keep progress visible. Performance depends on the data and storage device.

  • Changed

Search filters, sharing permissions, batch rename, archive extraction and model animation now share the themed Settings dropdown, including keyboard navigation, type-ahead, Escape and native-video overlay protection.

  • Changed

Connect now saves automatic account connection as enabled through app restarts, reboot and updates. Disconnect keeps pairing and shared-root settings but persists automatic connection as off until Connect now. RFile still needs to be running; Windows startup settings are not changed.

  • Fixed

Windows native size verification rejects incomplete shell accounting instead of recording an unproven pass. Existing exact staging, verification, move, bandwidth and recovery fallbacks remain explicit; Robocopy stays the recommended default.

  • Fixed

Account root rebuilds, background synchronization and stale pairing responses cannot silently undo a saved Disconnect choice. Failed settings persistence is reported instead of claiming the choice was saved.

  • Removed

Separate Search this PC and Storage tools sidebar entries; their functionality lives together in Search & storage. Duplicate review still requires explicit selection, retains a copy and only offers a reviewed same-volume move, not automatic recycling.

  • Removed

Beta labels on Velocity Rust and Windows Native engine preferences after targeted copy, move, collision, cancellation, pause/resume and recovery checks. Eligibility-based fallback and retained-output review remain part of their supported behavior; this does not claim universal engine parity or new benchmark results.

RFile 0.3.72 — 2026-09-05

Encrypted ZIP/7z, PC indexing, tags and smart folders, Settings-managed storage connections, and a combined Storage Map and Duplicate Finder.

  • Added

Create AES-256 password-protected ZIP and 7z archives and unlock compatible archives for Inspector browsing or selected extraction with operation-local prompts. ZIP filenames remain visible; new protected 7z archives encrypt filenames as well as contents. TAR protection, encrypted RAR, encrypted drag-out, and adding entries to encrypted archives are not included.

  • Added

Search this PC and the This PC search box now expose an opt-in local metadata index with as-you-type results, file/folder, extension, size, date and folder filters, live update tracking, real indexing counts and cancellation. Contents and network drives are not indexed. Results are bounded to 500; missed events, directory arrivals and changes while RFile is closed recommend a refresh.

  • Added

Tags and smart folders organize local files without moving them. Use the Tags context-menu action, browse verified tagged items, combine tag: with supported metadata filters, and save searches as smart folders. Ordinary RFile rename operations update identity-checked tag references in order; external moves, bulk rename and transfer paths are not automatically tracked.

  • Added

Storage Tools combines a read-only, cancellable storage map with exact-content duplicate groups, logical-size breakdowns, largest-file and folder lists, drill-down, scan/hash progress and explicit review. A confirmed identity-checked same-volume move can stage selected extras in a review folder while keeping at least one copy. Windows recycling is unavailable; moving extras frees no disk space.

  • Added

Settings > Storage connections manages Google Drive setup and explicitly added existing Windows OneDrive synced folders. Disconnecting a OneDrive shortcut does not remove files, sign out of Windows OneDrive or stop syncing. Direct OneDrive cloud sign-in, SFTP and WebDAV are not included.

  • Changed

Disconnected Google Drive and unselected OneDrive synced-folder connections no longer appear in This PC or the sidebar. Provider status and quota ownership refresh when connections change.

  • Changed

Settings, Nearby devices, Transfers and other special pages now show Back and Forward buttons using the same per-tab history as Backspace.

  • Changed

New PC indexing, tags, smart folders and Storage Tools are labeled Preview in the documentation. Existing Tab R branding, website tours, historical benchmark evidence and signed updater compatibility are unchanged.

  • Fixed

Nearby pairing tries a bounded set of alternate discovered addresses after eligible transport failures before comparison-code confirmation. It retains authentication, exact pin checks, explicit consent and cancellation; it never retries an identity or confirmation failure as another peer.

  • Fixed

Authenticated trusted-device name associations replace generic endpoint labels where identity has been established. Unknown devices are labeled Nearby computer until pairing; PC names are not newly broadcast in public discovery records.

  • Fixed

Outgoing Nearby manifest completion rechecks source metadata so a source changed during preparation is reported as a terminal source-change failure, without an extra full-content hash pass. Already-staged reconnects retain their existing path.

  • Fixed

Windows folder filters are normalized consistently before index prefiltering; directory arrivals and watcher overflow cannot silently present an incomplete index as current.

RFile 0.3.71 — 2026-09-05

The selected Tab R logo unifies app and website icons in a branding-only update.

  • Changed

The angular blue Tab R replaces the previous charcoal tile artwork across the Windows executable, installer, taskbar/tray, account marks, website favicons, web app icons, and social artwork. Its raised file-tab top and transparent counter use the exact selected design, without an enclosing tile, outline, or gradient.

  • Changed

Desktop and website headers remain text-only. Inspector image zoom/pan, media playback, transfers, the centered website hero, footer motion preferences, and signed-updater compatibility are unchanged.

  • Fixed

Windows installer and uninstaller icons explicitly use the shared Tab R artwork instead of the default NSIS icon.

RFile 0.3.70 — 2026-09-04

Inspector image zoom and pan, a restrained app-style R icon, and a text-only desktop wordmark.

  • Added

Local raster/SVG and eligible Google Drive image previews share zoom and pan controls: wheel or pinch to zoom, drag an enlarged image, use minus/plus, Fit, or 100%, and double-click to switch between Fit and a closer view.

  • Added

Image zoom shortcuts work while the preview has focus: plus or equals zooms in, minus zooms out, and zero returns to Fit. Arrow keys pan 40 CSS pixels when the image viewport itself has focus. Zoom is bounded up to 800%, while Fit keeps the whole image visible without enlarging small images.

  • Changed

RFile's icon is now a flat charcoal workspace tile with a light-slate geometric R and a muted indigo tab accent. Executable, installer, taskbar, tray, account, favicon, and web app marks share the same artwork.

  • Changed

The desktop titlebar returns to a plain RFile wordmark beside the sidebar toggle. Transfer behavior and signed-updater compatibility are unchanged.

  • Changed

Image text-selection overlays follow the same zoomed image rectangle. Text selection owns pointer dragging while wheel zoom and zoom buttons remain available; changing the selected image or source resets viewing state.

  • Fixed

Space and Enter activate focused image-toolbar buttons without triggering file-list or Inspector-toggle shortcuts. Local image previews and late dimensions are checked against their producing file path so rapid selection does not display an old image under a new filename.

  • Removed

The decorative logo beside RFile in the desktop titlebar.

RFile 0.3.69 — 2026-09-04

A new blue folder-and-R identity unifies RFile's desktop, installer, tray, and website branding.

  • Added

A single original blue folder-and-R master artwork supplies the desktop window, executable, installer, tray, and website icons.

  • Changed

Desktop titlebar and account branding now use the same RFile mark. Transfer behavior and updater compatibility remain unchanged.

  • Fixed

Inconsistent application and website brand icons have been replaced with the shared identity.

RFile 0.3.68 — 2026-09-04

More reliable LAN folder transfers, live source-verification progress, and clearer preparation and finalization status on the shared Transfers surface.

  • Added

Single-file sends now report bounded live hash-byte progress before approval; folder sends also report verification of each source file before its bytes are sent.

  • Changed

Single-file sends retain a mutation-denying source handle and reuse its verified hash across send and reconnect instead of repeatedly scanning unchanged bytes. Source identity, integrity, consent, and durable receiver acknowledgement remain required.

  • Changed

Direct-send control requests use the shared 30-second default rather than a five-second override, allowing more time for receiver disk verification and publication while keeping the separate five-minute approval window.

  • Changed

Send and download cards share bounded progress presentation. Unknown scan and one-pass archive totals remain animated with live byte/item counts; source verification shows measured bytes, and sends wait for receiver acknowledgement before showing 100%.

  • Fixed

Folders with more than 64 files no longer fail when verified hidden-stage entries incorrectly consume active receiving slots. Verified entries retain their recovery journals and disk reservations until atomic folder publication; simultaneous receives and retained state remain bounded.

  • Fixed

The shared V2 transfer layer no longer treats an already-disconnected socket during post-acknowledgement cleanup as a failed transfer. This fixes intermittent file/folder downloads reporting a protocol error after all bytes arrived; failures before the authenticated acknowledgement remain errors.

  • Fixed

A source check between folder files no longer appears to be a frozen network transfer, and completed payload bytes are labeled Finalizing on receiver while acknowledgement is pending.

RFile 0.3.67 — 2026-09-01

Windows Shell icons for executables and shortcuts are now cached per item so embedded application artwork remains correct in the file surface and Inspector.

  • Changed

Executable, shortcut, screen-saver, and Control Panel icon requests now keep a path-specific cache entry because files with the same extension can embed or select different Windows Shell artwork.

  • Fixed

Opening another executable no longer lets a previously cached generic or unrelated .exe icon replace that file's embedded icon in Details, icon grids, or the Inspector.

RFile 0.3.66 — 2026-08-28

Inspector video uses ArtPlayer for browser HTML-media lifecycle and a consistent ArtPlayer-inspired RFile control surface while retaining the secure native VLC backend and exact playback behavior.

  • Added

For browser-decodable Inspector video, locally bundled, MIT-licensed ArtPlayer 5.4.0 owns the HTML-media and decoder lifecycle, loads only when that path is needed, and is never fetched from a CDN at runtime.

  • Changed

RFile's existing semantic buttons and ranges now form one consistent ArtPlayer-inspired accessible control surface for both engines; ArtPlayer's generated DOM controls are suppressed rather than presented as the browser transport.

  • Changed

Formats that need VLC keep RFile's supervised native VLC child-window decoder behind the same RFile control surface; ArtPlayer does not replace VLC as a decoder.

  • Changed

The refreshed player retains Fit and Fill, full screen, keyboard playback controls, and paused-by-default behavior across both the ArtPlayer/WebView and native VLC paths.

  • Changed

Holding the primary mouse or pen button on the picture for exactly 350 ms still temporarily plays at 2×; an ordinary release or cancellation restores the accepted base rate and prior playing or paused state, while hiding, minimizing, or changing selection leaves playback paused.

RFile 0.3.65 — 2026-08-27

Eligible collision-free same-volume roots retain an immediate atomic rename, while eligible cross-volume folder moves between local fixed NTFS volumes now use the requested Robocopy data-copy engine without giving it source-deletion authority.

  • Changed

Eligible collision-free same-volume file and folder roots keep the O(1), identity-bound atomic-rename path without copying payload bytes or starting Robocopy; occupied destinations and folder merges take the verified transfer path and can use Robocopy when independently eligible.

  • Changed

Robocopy is never launched with /MOVE or /MOV. For an eligible cross-volume folder move between local fixed NTFS volumes, it copies only into RFile's private stage; RFile verifies and durably publishes the destination before its identity-bound journal removes the source.

  • Changed

Other or ineligible cross-volume shapes—including single-file roots, mixed roots, unsupported metadata, storage topologies or transfer policies, and recovered partial work—use a safe, truthfully reported fallback where supported or fail closed before mutation.

  • Fixed

Eligible cross-volume folder Cut/Paste jobs between local fixed NTFS volumes no longer fall back to Velocity merely because the requested engine is Robocopy and the operation is a move.

RFile 0.3.64 — 2026-08-27

VLC Video can now be persistently turned off or back on across RFile, and a confirmed trusted WinGet flow can remove VLC from Windows with safe playback and manual fallbacks.

  • Added

Settings > Plugins now has a Use VLC in Inspector switch whose native app-data preference controls the whole running RFile process and persists across restarts; turning it off closes active VLC previews and blocks new VLC helper starts without uninstalling VLC.

  • Added

A separately confirmed Uninstall VLC action can ask the trusted Windows Package Manager path to remove the exact VideoLAN.VLC package system-wide, with an explicit warning that removal affects every app on the PC.

  • Changed

When VLC is turned off, unavailable, or removed, RFile tries built-in video playback and offers the default external player for formats Windows cannot decode.

  • Changed

Plugin state and operation revisions are broadcast across all open RFile windows so enable, disable, install, uninstall, and failure status remain consistent and stale responses cannot replace newer state.

  • Changed

When the audited WinGet uninstall path is unavailable or removal cannot be verified safely, RFile keeps its VLC integration off and offers Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps as the manual fallback.

  • Fixed

Disabling or uninstalling VLC now invalidates in-flight opens and retires active helpers before system removal, preventing another window or a late preview request from reopening VLC during the transition.

RFile 0.3.63 — 2026-08-26

Inspector previews now cover Unity metadata and prefabs, sanitized HTML, and Windows-provided CAD thumbnails, while folder naming and keyboard return navigation behave more like Explorer.

  • Added

Unity .meta and .prefab files can be inspected as bounded YAML-like source without loading Unity or executing their content.

  • Added

HTML files retain an escaped Source view and add an explicit sanitized Preview view inside an opaque-origin iframe with no script, form, popup, local-file, same-origin, or network authority.

  • Added

CAD and authoring formats can request a real selected-file content thumbnail from a provider registered with Windows; supported text exchange formats have a bounded source fallback, and unavailable formats explain the provider requirement.

  • Changed

Single-item rename and New folder now edit directly in the active list or icon grid. Enter accepts, Escape cancels, ordinary files initially select only their stem, and new folders use the familiar New folder, New folder (2) naming sequence.

  • Fixed

After Enter opens a folder, Backspace now consumes the tab's real history and returns to the parent with that folder selected and revealed instead of resetting the keyboard cursor to the top.

RFile 0.3.62 — 2026-08-25

Signed updates now use exact immutable GitHub Release assets with disk-backed verification and a 512 MiB safety limit, while preserving a permanent compatibility bootstrap for older RFile versions.

  • Added

The updater can accept future signed Windows installers up to 512 MiB and stages each download in a private disk-backed file instead of buffering the whole installer in memory.

  • Changed

RFile 0.3.62 and newer use the advancing latest-v2 feed and download only the exact versioned installer asset from RFile's immutable public GitHub Release.

  • Changed

Installer bytes are SHA-256 hashed and minisign-verified incrementally before installation, with strict host, redirect, response-length, and size checks retained.

  • Changed

The rfile.app Windows download button now redirects browsers to that same immutable GitHub asset instead of serving an installer from the website deployment.

  • Changed

The legacy latest.json feed is permanently frozen at the at-or-below-25-MiB 0.3.62 bootstrap, and its fixed-length rfile.app compatibility path remains available to updater-enabled releases through 0.3.61.

  • Fixed

Future signed updates larger than the old 25 MiB ceiling are no longer refused by RFile 0.3.62 and newer when they remain within the 512 MiB safety boundary.

RFile 0.3.61 — 2026-08-25

Inspector video now uses decoded picture sizing, quieter idle controls, selectable playback speeds, and temporary hold-for-2× playback.

  • Added

Video framing now offers Fit, which preserves the whole decoded frame, and Fill, which center-crops the edges to cover the picture area without stretching; bars encoded inside the source may remain.

  • Added

    The shared video transport now offers 0.25×, 0.5×, 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75×, and 2× playback-speed choices.

  • Added

Holding the primary mouse or pen button on the picture for 350 ms temporarily plays at 2×. An ordinary release or cancellation while the window remains visible restores the accepted base speed and prior playing or paused state; hiding, minimizing, or changing selection instead restores the selected speed, pauses playback, and never resumes it automatically. Touch-promoted input never activates the native VLC 2× gesture.

  • Changed

During active playback, video buttons now fade after 1.5 seconds of picture inactivity while a thin progress spine remains. Pointer movement, native-video movement, keyboard focus or shortcuts, transport hover, pause, opening, buffering, seeking, menus, and hold-for-2× keep or bring the controls back.

  • Changed

The native-safe controls remain in a reserved 44 px Inspector veil or 58 px full-screen veil instead of pretending to be a DOM overlay above VLC's separate Windows video surface.

  • Changed

The player shell continues to appear without waiting for decoding and can reuse a cached Windows thumbnail as its opening poster. Actual first-frame readiness remains dependent on the file, codec, VLC, storage, hardware, and drivers.

  • Fixed

Native video now reports its decoded dimensions, and Inspector reserves the transport height separately from the picture aspect, avoiding RFile-created pillarboxing from an incorrectly sized playback surface.

  • Fixed

Native VLC picture pointer handling is scoped to the selected window and session so hover, click, double-click, release-outside, and hold cancellation cannot act on a stale preview.

RFile 0.3.60 — 2026-08-25

Inspector video now chooses the fastest suitable engine, keeps RFile's modern controls on both paths, and starts no competing thumbnail or background VLC decoder work.

  • Added

Selecting an eligible local video now commits its player shell immediately and reuses any Windows Shell thumbnail already cached by FileView; video thumbnail lookups are cache-only so RFile does not start a competing Shell video decode.

  • Added

MP4, M4V, WebM, and MOV now use the embedded Windows/WebView player first when reported playable, then fall forward exactly once to on-demand VLC after an actual decode error; other eligible containers continue directly to VLC.

  • Changed

Both embedded and VLC playback now share RFile's modern transport, full-screen experience, and Space/K/F/M/arrow shortcuts; selecting a video remains paused until Play is requested.

  • Changed

Detailed container metadata probing now waits until playback is ready instead of competing with the first-frame path.

  • Changed

VLC is now strictly on demand: capability checks and ordinary supported MP4 selection start no background VLC helper, decoder, or primer.

  • Changed

Rapid selections use a per-window serialized admission gate with latest-selection checks. Before replacement, RFile requests an immediate native-window hide, waits at most 200 ms for acknowledgement, and then hard-retires the obsolete helper. This bounded synchronous step can add a small delay, but prevents stale surfaces and helper processes from accumulating.

  • Changed

When VLC is needed, its native surface remains hidden and physically muted until selected-media output is ready; early Play or seek intent belongs only to that exact selection, and codec work remains in the supervised out-of-process helper.

  • Changed

Minimizing, hiding to the background, parking, destroying, or updating a window pauses either playback engine and never resumes it automatically on restore.

  • Fixed

The Inspector no longer waits for its playback URL or detailed metadata probe before showing the player shell for a newly selected video.

  • Fixed

First video output no longer waits behind repeated frontend polling before replacing the opening poster.

  • Fixed

A playable MP4 no longer sits on a static VLC poster while a cold helper starts; Play controls the embedded engine immediately, with VLC retained as the automatic one-way fallback.

RFile 0.3.59 — 2026-08-25

Native VLC-backed Inspector video now has a responsive transport, monitor-wide full screen, and scoped media keys without autoplay.

  • Added

Native VLC-backed local video previews now expose a redesigned transport with play/pause, timeline seeking, elapsed and total time, volume, mute, filename, playback state, VLC identity, and a full-screen action.

  • Added

The native VLC-backed player supports Space or K for play/pause, Left and Right Arrow for five-second seeking, M for mute, F for full screen, and Escape to leave full screen; ordinary editing controls, modifiers, and file-list navigation retain their own keys.

  • Changed

VLC-backed previews open paused and never autoplay; playback begins only after an explicit player control or media key.

  • Changed

VLC-backed full screen moves focus into a modal player, contains keyboard traversal, restores focus on exit, remeasures the native video surface across layout and display-scale changes, and reverses only the Windows full-screen state the player owns.

  • Changed

The embedded WebView/browser fallback retains its own controls and does not claim the native VLC transport, full-screen shell, or VLC-specific shortcut behavior.

  • Fixed

Native VLC media keys no longer trigger the Inspector toggle, file-list type-ahead, or file navigation behind the player, and native buttons and sliders retain their normal keyboard behavior.

  • Fixed

Parking or reusing a desktop window clears player-owned full-screen state so it cannot leak into another window lifetime.

RFile 0.3.58 — 2026-08-24

Inspector video can use a separately installed VLC 3 runtime, and Settings > Plugins offers a confirmed trusted WinGet installation with an official VideoLAN website fallback.

  • Added

Eligible local video previews can use a compatible 64-bit VLC 3 installation with Inspector play, pause, seek, volume, mute, timing, and playback-state controls.

  • Added

Settings > Plugins detects VLC and, after explicit confirmation, can request the pinned x64 VideoLAN.VLC 3.0.23 machine package through a verified WinGet executable and official Microsoft source; the official VideoLAN Windows download page remains available as the manual fallback.

  • Changed

Inspector video now tries the optional installed VLC runtime before the embedded Windows player and automatically returns to the embedded path when VLC is unavailable, rejects the file, or stops unexpectedly.

  • Changed

VLC codec code runs in a supervised child process with bounded handles, process count, and memory instead of loading into RFile's main process. This provides crash and resource containment, not a separate Windows privilege sandbox.

  • Changed

VLC remains separately installed third-party software and is not bundled with the RFile installer.

RFile 0.3.57 — 2026-08-24

The Inspector can select and copy text from supported local images entirely offline, while Nearby Sharing now uses one clear Off, On, or Auto choice.

  • Added

Supported local PNG, JPEG, WebP, and BMP previews now offer Select text, selectable recognized lines, ordinary Ctrl+C copying, and a Copy all action in the Inspector.

  • Added

Image text recognition uses bundled local PP-OCRv6 models and a CPU runtime; it starts only when requested and does not upload the image or recognized text.

  • Changed

Nearby Sharing now presents Off, On, and Auto as one three-way control. Auto also shows a small Auto on status and turns sharing on whenever RFile starts.

  • Changed

The Nearby transfer bandwidth limit has moved from the Nearby devices page to Settings > Nearby & background; 0 continues to mean unlimited.

  • Changed

Browse Devices folder downloads retain the stable 0.3.56 prepare-then-transfer Stored-ZIP path with visible preparation, authenticated V2 delivery, final BLAKE3 verification, private extraction validation, and atomic publication.

RFile 0.3.56 — 2026-08-13

Browse Devices folders again finish their visible Stored-ZIP preparation before authenticated V2 transfer, avoiding live-stream cancellations and Protocol failures.

  • Changed

Folder downloads now complete Scanning folder, Packaging folder, and Checking archive before authenticated V2 network delivery begins; ZIP production and transfer no longer overlap.

  • Changed

The fast single Stored-ZIP carrier, exact BLAKE3 verification, private extraction validation, and atomic destination publication remain unchanged.

  • Fixed

Disabling live archive-stream advertisement on LAN and internet connections prevents the cancellation and Protocol failure modes reported by Browse Devices folder downloads.

RFile 0.3.55 — 2026-08-13

Live Browse Devices folder streaming now completes authenticated extents reliably on Windows while packaging and transfer remain concurrent.

  • Changed

Stored-ZIP packaging and authenticated V2 delivery continue to overlap with bounded backpressure and separate packaged and received progress.

  • Fixed

Live folder downloads no longer fail with Protocol when the ZIP producer has emitted only part of the next authenticated V2 record: each read now waits for its complete promised extent before delivery.

  • Fixed

Cloned Windows archive handles now serialize seek, read, and write access so their shared file cursor cannot race between ZIP production and concurrent transfer.

RFile 0.3.54 — 2026-08-13

Browse Devices can now package and transfer a planned Stored ZIP concurrently, with dual progress and authenticated terminal verification.

  • Added

RFile 0.3.54 peers can negotiate live Stored-ZIP streaming after the sender commits an exact immutable archive plan and byte length, overlapping archive production with delivery instead of waiting for the whole ZIP to finish first.

  • Added

The Transfers card labels the overlap as Packaging & transferring and separately reports bytes packaged on the sending computer and bytes received locally.

  • Changed

The initial live-archive protocol uses one authenticated dedicated V2 lane from byte zero, with bounded producer backpressure and cancellation that stops both archive production and delivery.

  • Changed

The receiver treats the upfront plan commitment as distinct from the content hash, verifies the final authenticated BLAKE3 and exact length, then validates and extracts privately before atomic publication.

  • Changed

Peers without the negotiated live-archive capability keep the established prepare-then-transfer Stored-ZIP path unchanged.

RFile 0.3.53 — 2026-08-13

Faster Browse Devices folder preparation with forward-only Stored ZIP writing, larger output buffering, and inline archive hashing.

  • Changed

Modern Browse Devices folder preparation now uses a standards-compatible forward-only Stored ZIP writer instead of seeking backward to patch every entry header.

  • Changed

Archive output is buffered in 1 MiB blocks and its exact BLAKE3 digest is computed inline as bytes are written, removing the complete post-build archive reread.

  • Changed

The Stored ZIP carrier, authenticated dedicated V2 bulk lane, and durable archive flush are unchanged; folder preparation still runs and reports progress before network transfer begins.

RFile 0.3.52 — 2026-08-12

Immediate local-transfer visibility, direct-final Robocopy for exact reviewed destinations, and bounded legacy Browse Devices discovery progress.

  • Added

The legacy recursive Browse Devices folder fallback now reports bounded, coalesced aggregate discovery progress while the remote tree is enumerated. Current peers continue to use a Stored ZIP over the authenticated dedicated V2 bulk lane.

  • Changed

A local copy now appears in Transfers as soon as conflict checking starts and stays visible while the selected engine is starting.

  • Changed

Eligible single-folder Robocopy copies whose reviewed final roots remain absent—including exact Keep both copy names—now use the ordinary direct-final path instead of building and publishing a second private manifest stage. Replace and other publication-required jobs retain reviewed staging.

  • Changed

Reviewed local jobs reserve their exact final destination roots, allowing two disjoint jobs to run concurrently while overlapping paths and unresolved dynamic Keep both names remain serialized.

  • Fixed

Robocopy cards now include the adapter's observed file count instead of remaining at zero files while bytes are copied.

  • Fixed

An eligible exact-root Robocopy copy no longer reaches 100% and then spends an extended period hashing and publishing a redundant reviewed stage before completion.

RFile 0.3.51 — 2026-08-12

Reliable trusted-folder consent, stable Browse Devices preparation, and truthful Velocity fallback for reviewed Windows Native named streams.

  • Changed

Reviewed Windows Native folder jobs that need the exact-stage contract resolve to Velocity Rust with NativeExactStageContract before named-stream routing; Velocity preserves and verifies the planned NTFS stream while RFile reports requested Windows Native, actual Velocity, and the fallback reason. Directly requested, independently eligible Robocopy jobs remain on Robocopy and verify their named streams.

  • Fixed

Browse Devices folder downloads now recognize ArchivePreparation as a valid nonterminal response, so the first progress poll no longer becomes an Internal failure and the prepared archive can proceed to authenticated transfer.

  • Fixed

Trusted folder offers that require manual consent now remain pending and retry ApprovalRequested delivery when the bounded UI event queue is temporarily full instead of being falsely reported as PolicyRejected.

  • Fixed

Outgoing Nearby transfers now preserve receiver declines and insufficient-space responses instead of labeling every rejected offer as PolicyRejected.

RFile 0.3.50 — 2026-08-12

Large conflict reviews, safely concurrent local transfers, verified Robocopy named streams, and unified Nearby transfer visibility.

  • Added

Trusted-device Nearby sends now appear in the global Transfers panel with the actual dedicated V2, authenticated V1, or legacy carrier plus device, direction, preparation or approval state, byte and item progress, speed, ETA, elapsed time, and terminal status.

  • Changed

Conflict review now uses a compact canonical fail-closed tree commitment and supports the transfer planner's 999,999-entry ceiling without retaining one full path record for every descendant.

  • Changed

The local scheduler can run two disjoint copy or move jobs concurrently while overlapping source or destination authority remains serialized; unreviewed dynamic Keep Both destinations also serialize until their exact final names are reserved.

  • Changed

Robocopy remains selected for otherwise eligible content whose only advanced NTFS feature is a named stream such as Zone.Identifier, then RFile enumerates and verifies those streams before publication. Sparse files, hard links, symbolic links, and other unsupported advanced features still use a safe fallback.

RFile 0.3.49 — 2026-08-12

Trusted sends share the Browse Devices bulk core, folder downloads show preparation, and local conflict and Robocopy terminal states are clearer.

  • Added

Browse Devices folder downloads now appear before network transfer begins and report sender-side Scanning folder, Packaging folder, and Finishing archive phases with aggregate entry, file, folder, processed-byte, discovered-so-far byte, and elapsed-time details.

  • Changed

After consent and resume negotiation, non-empty BLAKE3 trusted sends between RFile 0.3.49 peers now use the authenticated dedicated V2 bulk-lane core shared with Browse Devices; SHA-256 sends and older peers safely retain the existing authenticated streaming path.

  • Changed

Local copy and move name collisions now use a compact Windows-style prompt with Keep both, Replace, and Skip; a deliberate Don't show this prompt again choice is persisted and can be changed under Settings > Transfers.

  • Fixed

Fresh conflict-reviewed folder copies that remain eligible for the selected Robocopy engine no longer appear as recovered partial Velocity work; Finalizing now precedes durable Completed state.

  • Fixed

Transfer timing now runs from queue acceptance through the current or terminal state and omits empty speed or remaining-time separators cleanly.

RFile 0.3.48 — 2026-08-12

Nearby folder sends prepare faster, report their real preparation phases, and no longer let inactive transfer rows prevent an update.

  • Changed

Nearby folder inventory preparation now hashes separate ordinary files with a bounded worker pool while retaining the low-overhead sequential path for a single file.

  • Changed

A newly prepared first offer reuses the inventory proof that was just completed instead of immediately rehashing every byte; reconnects and later attempts still revalidate, and final source checks remain in place.

  • Changed

Outgoing Nearby transfer cards use the selected folder or item name and distinguish Scanning, Verifying, and Final checks, with available byte and item counts instead of presenting preparation as network transfer progress.

  • Fixed

Retained completed, failed, cancelled, and interrupted Nearby rows no longer block update installation; approval, preparation, transfer, and interruption work that is still live continues to block process replacement safely.

RFile 0.3.47 — 2026-08-12

A refined Settings layout and patient Nearby consent window make configuration and trusted-device sends easier to use.

  • Added

Keyboard-accessible themed dropdowns for Settings, replacing native Windows popup styling while preserving arrow-key, Home, End, Enter, and Escape controls.

  • Changed

Settings categories, cards, shortcut controls, transfer fields, and Help & About now use a consistent spacing and sizing system across wide and compact windows.

  • Changed

Incoming Nearby offers now remain available for a five-minute consent window unless the recipient explicitly accepts or declines sooner.

  • Fixed

Copy-engine selection indicators now share a fixed aligned column instead of shifting with each description width.

  • Fixed

The sender no longer cancels an incoming file or folder offer after the old five-second generic request deadline while the recipient is deciding.

RFile 0.3.46 — 2026-08-12

Categorized Settings, close-to-tray background operation, and direct trusted-device sends make RFile easier to configure and keep available for Nearby Sharing.

  • Added

A categorized Settings workspace with a compact category rail and grouped controls for General, Transfers, Appearance, Shortcuts & layout, Nearby & background, Developer, and Help & About.

  • Added

Close-to-tray background operation with explicit Open RFile and Quit RFile tray commands, so closing the last RFile window can leave the desktop service and Nearby Sharing available.

  • Added

A Nearby auto-start preference plus a configurable incoming destination that defaults to the Downloads\RFile folder.

  • Added

Send files, Send folder, and Send selection actions on eligible connected trusted-device cards, with both RFile-internal and native Windows file or folder drops supported as send shortcuts.

  • Added

Global right-side incoming-offer cards with Accept and Decline actions, accompanied by an informational Windows notification when an offer arrives.

  • Changed

Help is now the Help & About category inside Settings instead of a separate sidebar destination, while help commands and links continue to open the merged content directly.

  • Changed

Direct trusted-device send controls are enabled only for a currently connected LAN device; offline and iroh-only entries stay disabled rather than implying a usable route.

  • Changed

Incoming offers do not expose filenames before consent. The system notification reports that an offer is waiting, while the in-app card owns the Accept or Decline decision.

RFile 0.3.45 — 2026-08-11

Inspector editing, cancellable archive jobs, explicit conflict review, transfer controls, Nearby controls, and customizable desktop surfaces arrive in one focused workflow update.

  • Added

An Edit mode beside the Inspector title for eligible local text and Markdown files, with Save, Cancel, Ctrl+S, draft recovery, and a 4 MiB safety limit.

  • Added

Background ZIP, TAR, and TAR.GZ creation plus archive extraction jobs with progress, retained completion history, and cancellation from Transfers.

  • Added

Settings for interface density, text size, reduced motion, high contrast, visible toolbar/sidebar/status-bar controls, customizable safe shortcuts, preferences import/export, and a trusted terminal choice.

  • Added

Nearby controls for choosing the incoming folder, setting a bandwidth limit, and cancelling an in-progress pairing attempt, plus a Help entry in the desktop sidebar.

  • Added

An opt-in Developer features setting for read-only Git working-tree badges and the current branch in local repository folders; it is off by default and does not list ignored files.

  • Changed

Archive extraction now requires an explicit existing-file policy: stop on a conflict, skip existing entries, or extract into a newly created folder.

  • Changed

Transfer preferences now cover engine, verification, resource mode, per-job and global bandwidth, and durable checkpoints; per-job policies are captured by new jobs while global bandwidth and resource mode update the live scheduler, and Transfers reports requested and actual engines plus any safe fallback reason.

  • Changed

Local paste and supported local drop workflows use the same preflight conflict review, with Replace, Skip, or Keep both available per collision or for the remaining list.

  • Changed

Inspector saves preserve supported UTF-8 or UTF-16 encoding and the file's newline style, then refresh the containing folder after a successful atomic replacement.

  • Changed

Customization changes RFile's own presentation only; this release does not add or turn on Narrator, NVDA, or JAWS integrations.

  • Fixed

Inspector editing detects an externally changed file before saving instead of silently overwriting a newer revision.

  • Fixed

Archive work starts as an identified background job, remains visible through its terminal state, and no longer requires the file workspace to wait for the complete operation.

RFile 0.3.44 — 2026-08-11

Markdown files now have a rendered Preview mode in the Inspector alongside their original text view.

  • Added

A Text/Preview switch beside the Inspector title for .md and .markdown files.

  • Added

A local, read-only Markdown preview for headings, lists, tables, task lists, block quotes, links, inline code, and fenced code blocks.

  • Changed

Markdown preview uses the existing bounded text read instead of loading the complete file without limits.

  • Changed

Raw HTML and scripts are ignored, unsafe link targets are blocked, and Markdown images stay unloaded to prevent hidden local or network requests.

RFile 0.3.43 — 2026-08-11

3D previews now resolve approved local model resources, keep geometry visible when optional textures are missing, and add detailed animation and material inspection.

  • Added

A one-clip-at-a-time animation selector with play, pause, restart, timeline scrubbing, and playback-speed controls.

  • Added

Inspector material details for names, material types, colors, and texture slots, including whether each texture was loaded or unavailable.

  • Changed

The 3D resource resolver now accepts self-contained content plus safe, bounded sidecars from the model directory, a matching <model>.fbm folder, or a path rebased inside the current Assets or Content project root.

  • Changed

Network resources, stale absolute paths, path traversal, and global filesystem searches remain blocked.

  • Fixed

A missing or rejected optional texture no longer aborts the complete 3D preview; RFile falls back to geometry and embedded material colors.

RFile 0.3.42 — 2026-08-11

The Inspector can now display supported 3D objects as interactive previews with camera and animation controls.

  • Added

Interactive Inspector previews for GLB; embedded-resource glTF and VRM; OBJ geometry; STL; PLY; embedded-resource FBX and COLLADA DAE; 3MF; and USDZ files.

  • Added

Orbit, pan, zoom, and Reset view controls, plus play and pause controls when a model contains supported animation clips.

  • Changed

3D previews are limited to 128 MiB and remain self-contained: external sidecars and network resources are not loaded, while CAD and authoring formats such as STEP, IGES, and BLEND continue to open in their associated applications.

RFile 0.3.41 — 2026-08-10

Batch rename now uses a simple point-and-click name recipe, so files can be numbered and organized without typing pattern codes.

  • Changed

The batch editor now asks whether to keep original names or use one shared name, preserves extensions automatically, and provides ordinary controls for text before or after a name.

  • Changed

Numbering is configured with plain choices for position, separator, starting value, counting step, and number style such as 1 or 001; find-and-replace and capitalization remain available under More changes.

  • Fixed

Batch rename and Open with menu labels now render their ellipsis correctly instead of exposing broken encoded characters.

  • Removed

Removed the requirement to type {name}, {ext}, or {n} pattern codes in the batch-rename dialog.

RFile 0.3.40 — 2026-08-09

WinRAR joins RFile's custom menu, ZIP creation starts visibly and runs faster, and archive jobs now keep complete progress and timing history until you clear them.

  • Added

Installed WinRAR appears directly in RFile's custom right-click menu with open, add-to-RAR, add-to-ZIP, extract, and test actions where applicable.

  • Added

ZIP jobs show an immediate scanning state followed by percentage, entries, bytes, live throughput, estimated time remaining, startup time, and total completion time.

  • Changed

Archive source identity checks are pinned in parallel, ZIP deflate uses the faster zlib-ng backend at a speed-oriented level, and already-compressed game, media, document, and archive formats are stored without redundant recompression.

  • Changed

Completed and failed archive jobs remain in Transfers until Clear is clicked.

  • Fixed

Large folder compression no longer leaves the Transfers panel empty during preflight or resets completed archive totals to zero.

RFile 0.3.39 — 2026-08-09

Batch rename adds selection-aware F2 and context-menu workflows with a conflict-checked preview before any local names change.

  • Added

Select multiple local files or folders and choose Batch rename from RFile's right-click menu, or press F2, to rename the whole selection.

  • Added

The batch editor supports {name}, {ext}, and {n} patterns, literal find and replace, configurable numbering, letter-case conversion, and a complete before-and-after preview.

  • Changed

F2 now opens the existing single-item rename for one selection and the batch editor for two or more same-folder items.

  • Fixed

Duplicate destinations, existing-name collisions, invalid Windows names, changed sources, and mixed-folder selections are blocked before execution.

RFile 0.3.38 — 2026-08-09

The expanded RFile right-click menu is back, the full Windows shell menu is available on demand, and split-view headers can drag the window from either pane.

  • Added

The custom RFile file menu now includes the common open, clipboard, archive, delete, terminal, Explorer, and properties commands in one consistent surface.

  • Added

Show more options opens the complete classic Windows shell menu, including applicable WinRAR, Git, editor, media, security, and other installed extensions.

  • Changed

Local-file right-click opens RFile's compact custom menu first instead of immediately replacing it with the Windows shell menu.

  • Fixed

Empty tab-strip space above either side of split view now acts as a native window drag region while tabs and controls remain interactive.

RFile 0.3.37 — 2026-08-09

Native Windows right-click menus with installed shell extensions, selection-aware multi-file commands, and preserved RFile actions.

  • Added

The complete classic Windows item menu opens directly on local-file right-click, including applicable WinRAR, Git, editor, media, security, and other installed shell extensions.

  • Added

A native RFile actions submenu preserves RFile tab, window, archive, rename, and permanent-delete commands.

  • Changed

Windows shell commands now receive the exact same-folder multi-selection instead of only the clicked item.

  • Fixed

Dynamic, cascading, and owner-drawn shell-extension menus now receive the Windows messages they require, including Send to and third-party submenus.

  • Fixed

Mixed-folder search selections fall back safely, dismissing a menu no longer refreshes the folder, and shell command failures are reported instead of silently succeeding.

RFile 0.3.36 — 2026-08-09

Reliable remote folder downloads, crash-safe conflict handling, and accessible remote browser multi-selection.

  • Added

Authenticated remote-folder downloads that arrive as normal local folders instead of leaving an archive behind.

  • Added

Accessible multi-selection, keyboard commands, context actions, and batch operations in the remote browser.

  • Changed

Remote folder transfers now use bounded ZIP validation and extraction, sender-side free-space protection, and explicit Keep both or Replace conflict review.

  • Fixed

Junction, symlink, and other unsupported reparse entries are omitted without being followed instead of failing the whole folder as InvalidPath.

  • Fixed

Folder publication and failed drag-cache cleanup now preserve crash-safe staging and cleanup behavior.

RFile 0.3.33 — 2026-08-06

RFile v0.3.33 automatically reconnects paired accounts, safely repairs older device-bound drive identities, serializes authenticated root control, improves truthful Velocity finalization, accelerates folder sizing with a bounded cancellable worker pool, and fixes Settings and Transfers layout.

  • Changed

Paired accounts reconnect automatically, older device-bound drive identities can be repaired, and authenticated root control is serialized.

  • Changed

Folder sizing uses a bounded, cancellable worker pool.

  • Fixed

Velocity finalization reports its real outcome, and Settings and Transfers layout issues are corrected.

RFile 0.3.32 — 2026-08-06

Fix direct Google Drive downloads without optional checksums, secure recursive folder commits and uploads, verified bounded image previews, stable Google Drive quota display, and cached This PC rendering.

  • Changed

Recursive Google Drive folder commits and uploads are hardened, image previews are verified and bounded, and This PC rendering is cached.

  • Fixed

Direct Google Drive downloads now work when an optional checksum is unavailable, and Drive quota display remains stable.

RFile 0.3.31 — 2026-08-06

Fix direct Google Drive OAuth completion, add persistent connection diagnostics, and keep native Drive transfers direct between this PC and Google.

  • Added

    Persistent Google Drive connection diagnostics.

  • Changed

Native Drive transfer bytes remain direct between the computer and Google.

  • Fixed

    Direct Google Drive OAuth completion.

RFile 0.3.30 — 2026-08-06

Reliable Windows icons at startup: RFile now bounds Shell icon work, retries transient failures without poisoning the cache, preserves real drive icons, and defers inactive restored-tab directory reads.

  • Changed

Shell icon work is bounded, transient failures can be retried, real drive icons are preserved, and inactive restored-tab reads are deferred.

  • Fixed

Windows icon loading during startup and restored-tab recovery.

RFile 0.3.29 — 2026-08-06

Google Drive in RFile: direct desktop-to-Google downloads and uploads, folder transfers, drag and drop, storage quota, inspector and context actions, cancellable progress, and a manual account reconnect control. Bulk Drive bytes bypass Cloudflare.

  • Added

Direct Google Drive uploads and downloads, folder transfers, drag and drop, quota display, Inspector and context actions, cancellable progress, and manual account reconnect.

  • Changed

Bulk Google Drive bytes bypass Cloudflare and travel directly between the desktop app and Google.

RFile 0.3.28 — 2026-08-05
