KEYBOARD WORKFLOW

Keep common file actions within reach.

Status: Production

These shortcuts are verified against the current desktop implementation. Some actions require an active file view or an eligible selection.

Tabs and navigation

  • Ctrl+T

    Open a new tab.

  • Ctrl+W

    Close the active tab.

  • Ctrl+Tab

    Move to the next tab.

  • Ctrl+Shift+Tab

    Move to the previous tab.

  • F5

    Refresh the active file view.

  • Backspace

    Navigate backward through the active tab's history. If no earlier history exists, use the supported parent location; a direct return to a parent selects and reveals the folder just left.

  • Arrow keys

    Move the focused selection through the active file list.

  • Home / End

    Move selection to the first or last item in the current list.

  • Page Up / Page Down

    Move through the list by a visible page.

  • Enter

    Open the focused file or folder.

  • Type a name

    Jump to the next visible item whose name begins with the typed characters.

  • Escape

    Clear selection or close the current transient interface state.

Selection and file actions

  • Ctrl+A

    Select all items in the active file view.

  • Ctrl+C

    Copy the current selection.

  • Ctrl+X

    Cut the current selection for a move.

  • Ctrl+V

    Paste copied or cut content into the active eligible location.

  • Ctrl+Z

    Undo the last supported file operation when an undo record is available.

  • F2

    Rename one selected item directly in the list or icon grid, or open Batch rename when two or more same-folder items are selected. Enter accepts the inline name and Escape cancels it.

  • Delete

    Move the selected local items to the Recycle Bin where supported.

  • Shift+Delete

    Request permanent deletion of the selected local items.

Display and Inspector

  • Ctrl+H

    Toggle hidden-file visibility.

  • Space

    Toggle the Inspector preview when exactly one eligible item is selected.

  • + / - / 0 and arrows in an image preview

    While Inspector's image preview has focus, zoom in, zoom out, or return to Fit. With focus on the image viewport itself, arrow keys pan an enlarged image by 40 CSS pixels. Space and Enter still activate image-toolbar buttons. These controls do not replace file-list navigation or system shortcuts outside the image preview.

Change a shortcut

Open Settings > Shortcuts & layout, select a command's current binding, and press a new safe combination. RFile reports conflicts instead of assigning the same chord to two commands. You can clear one binding, restore its default, or reset the complete shortcut list.
